INGREDIENTS FOR THE CAKE:

1 Cup.Of unsalted butter, softened. 

2 Cups.Of granulated sugar.

5 large eggs, separated.

1 Tsp.Of vanilla extract.

2 Cups.Of all-purpose flour.

1 teaspoon baking soda.

1 Cup.Of buttermilk.

1 Cup.Of sweetened shredded coconut.

1 Cup.Of chopped pecans.

INGREDIENTS FOR THE CREAM CHEESE FROSTING:

8 ounces cream cheese, softened.

1/2 Cup.Of unsalted butter, softened.

4 Cups.Of powdered sugar.

1 Tsp.Of vanilla extract.

Additional chopped pecans and coconut flakes for decoration (optional).

DIRECTIONS:

1st Step 

Bring the oven up to temperature, preferably 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius), and prepare 3 medium cake pans by greasing and flouring them.

2nd Step 

In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar until frothy and pale in color. The egg yolks should be added one at a time and well mixed in between each addition. Add the vanilla and mix well.

3rd Step 

Mix the flour and baking soda in a separate basin. Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture in three additions, alternating with the buttermilk. Combine the pecan pieces and coconut by stirring them together.
