THE INGREDIENTS LIST:

FOR THE CAKE:

2 Cups.Of all-purpose flour.

2 Cups.Of granulated sugar.

1 Cup.Of unsalted butter.

4 Tbsp.Of cocoa powder.

1 Cup.Of water.

1/2 Cup.Of buttermilk.

2 large eggs.

1 Tsp.Of baking soda.

1 Tsp.Of vanilla extract.

FOR THE TOPPING:

1/2 Cup.Of unsalted butter.

1/4 Cup.Of milk.

4 tablespoons cocoa powder.

3 1/2 Cups.Of powdered sugar.

1 Tsp.Of vanilla extract.

1 Cup.Of chopped pecans.

PREPARATION:

1st Step

Prepare your oven by preheating it to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius). Also, butter a baking sheet or pan measuring 9 by 13 inches and lay it aside.

2nd Step

In a saucepan, melt the butter. After the chocolate has melted, whisk in the cocoa powder and water until a smooth consistency is reached. And to finish, add the flour, sugar, and granulated sugar in a large mixing basin.

3rd Step

After the butter combination has been poured in, the flour and sugar mixture should be well combined. After adding the buttermilk, eggs, baking soda, and vanilla extract, whisk the mixture until all of the ingredients are evenly distributed throughout the batter.

4th Step

After the baking sheet has been prepped, pour the cake mixture onto it and spread it out evenly. Bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean, after placing the baking sheet in an oven that has been warmed.

5th Step

In a medium-sized saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. After adding the milk and cocoa powder, whisk the mixture until it is completely smooth.

6th Step

Add the vanilla extract and powdered sugar after turning off the heat in the saucepan. Stir until all of the ingredients are evenly distributed and the mixture is smooth. Mix in the pecans that have been chopped.

7th Step

After the cake has been allowed to somewhat cool, pour the topping ingredients over it and spread it out in a uniform layer. If you want to add a little more sweetness and depth of flavor, sprinkle some caramel sauce over the top before serving.

8th Step

Before cutting into the cake, let it totally cool down first. Using a sharp knife, cut the cake into squares before serving it on a platter or on individual plates. This scrumptious Texas Turtle Sheet Cake goes amazingly well with a serving of vanilla ice cream or some whipped cream on the side.

RECIPE NOTES:

Buttermilk may be replaced with half a cup of milk mixed with half a spoonful of lemon juice or white vinegar. For best results, let it 5-10 minutes to curdle.

Feel free to adjust the quantity of caramel sauce and pecans to your liking. Chocolate chips and shredded coconut are just two examples of optional toppings.

Cake can be stored at room temperature in a hermetic container for up to three days.
